Tree Lot Dies Junk Journal

(celebrating World Watercolour Month!)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a small junk journal I was working on this week featuring the Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration Tree Lot dies (item 159938).  These dies co-ordinate with the Trees For Sale stamp set (item 159785) from the July-December 2022 Mini Catalogue but are a lot of fun to play with on their own too!  During Sale-A-Bration, which started on July 1, 2022, and runs until August 31, 2022, the Tree Lot dies are available for free with a $120.00 CDN order (before taxes and shipping).  As soon as I saw the trailer I was anxious to get these dies!

The cover for this junk journal measures 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" and I have used Evening Evergreen cardstock (item 155574) for the base.  For the patterned paper background I used a sheet I had left from the recently retired New Horizons 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 157768), using additional strips of green and blue patterned sections of the paper to represent grass and water.  Under the trailer I added strips of Soft Suede patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Neutrals (item 159257) to represent the "ungrassed" campsite.  The trees and trailer were all cut from watercolour paper (Fluid 100 5" x 7" Watercolour Paper - item 149612) and coloured using the following inks like watercolours (applying the inks with a very wet paint brush):  for the trees I used Evening Evergreen ink (item 155576) and Old Olive ink (item 147090); for the trailer I used Bermuda Bay ink (item 147096), Soft Suede ink (item 147115), Basic Gray ink (item 149165), Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (item 132708), and Mango Melody ink (item 147093).  I sponged the edges of the trailer body pieces heavily with Soft Suede ink to help get a distressed look.  This is not a brand new trailer!  After colouring the tress I dribbled on a little more water to create a speckled or blotchy effect.  For several of the trees I did not add the detailed overlay die cut.  The  two little deer were cut from Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953) using the little deer die included with the Grove dies (item 157844) and sponged with Soft Suede ink.

I used Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach to the front panel the trailer and the large tree on the right side..  When adhering the other trees I did not always glue them down completely - thereby trying to add a little dimension by overlapping.

Since my thought for this junk journal was that it would be a journal to take with you camping (as opposed to glamping!) or at least used to capture the feeling of a more rustic camping experience, I wanted to use a variety of distressed papers (I have no shortage in my stash!) - I wanted ruffled edges and pages that extended beyond the cover.  I used a total of 12 "pages" (including a small kraft bag and small kraft envelope, some waxed tissue paper, old ledger paper, brown packing paper, and pages torn out of several spiral bound sketchbooks and scrapbooks) in my signature for a total of 48 surfaces (aka pages) to work on - including both sides of the envelope flap.  I sponged the edges of the "papers" with Soft Suede ink - again to help enhance the distressed look.  To secure the signature I used the 3-hole pamphlet stitch (https://archiesatelier.blogspot.com/2022/02/a-few-projects-using-ranunculus-romance.html), tying off with a bow between the flap and body of the small  kraft envelope that is located in the center of the signature.
To stich the signature in I used another recently retired item,  Evening Evergreen baker's twine from Fan Baker's Twine (item 158143).  To add the splatters on the front cover and throughout the pages I used a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker (item 100082) - flicking the brush end against the lip of the cap.

For the closure I added a bulldog clip from my stash to which I added a loopy bow made with Dollarama paper ribbon.

I am looking forward to decorating the pages of this junk journal!
