Visiting The Sunset Coast!

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few projects I worked on this week using the Stampin’ Up!® Sunset Coast dies (item 167780), which are featured in the May-August 2026 Catalogue as part of the Scenic Coast Suite Collection (item 167786).  The Scenic Coast Suite Collection also includes the Sunset Coast photopolymer stamp set (item 167775), the Scenic Coast 6" x 6" Specialty Designer Series Paper (item 167773), the Sunset Shimmer Vellum 12" x 12" Specialty Paper (item 167784), and the Sunset Sparkle Sequins (item 167785).
To complete my projects this week I aslo used the following additional Stampin’ Up!® dies, Designer Series Papers, and stamp set:
  • from the Online Exclusives Rolling Waves dies (item 167144) I used the wave and shell dies;
  • I used the cloud dies from the "coming soon" Oh My Fright dies (item 168175 - these dies will be part of the July 1st release of new Online Exclusives products);
  • for the two "faux metallic" clouds I used the smallest cloud die from the retired Adventurous Sky dies (item 163446 - featured in the May 2024-April 2025 Annual Catalogue);
  • from the retiring - and currently available as one of the discounted Last Chance Products - Notes & Totes dies (item 165240) I used the wood plank and large circular shell dies;
  • for the foliage die cuts used on the first project I used the recently retired Gallery Blooms dies (item 165212);
  • from the Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) I used circle, square, and the long narrow banner dies (the banner die was used to cut the tab used on the "faux metallic" luggage tag);
  • from the Nested Essentials dies (item 161597) I used the largest and third largest of the rounded corner rectangle dies to cut the base and frame for the "faux metallic" luggage tag;
  • from the Online Exclusives Everyday Arches dies (item 164629) I used the second and third smallest dies to cut the base and frame for the "faux metallic" lighthouse tag;
  • for the background panel on the first project I used an Azure Afternoon water patterned paper from the Scenic Coast 6" x 6" Specialty Designer Series Paper (item 167773);
  • on the Night Of Navy cardstock (item 100867) 4" square card I used two patterned papers from the retired Let's Go Fishing 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161534 - featured in the May 2023-April 2024 Annual Catalogue); and
  • from the Fern & Flora stamp set (item 167739) I used the "You're an amazing friend" sentiment.
For the die cuts I used both watercolour paper and cardstock - sometimes, as with the lighthouses in the first project and the Night Of Navy card, I combined both!  For these two lighthouses I added behind the windows a trimmed strip of watercolour paper that had been coloured using Pecan Pie ink (item 161665) mixed with water.  The watercolour paper bodies of both lighthouses were coloured with Gray Granite ink (item 147118) mixed with water and applied with a small paint brush.  I added splatters using my retired Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker (item 162481) by flicking the brush tip against the marker lid.

For the Notes & Totes wood plank die cuts, and the Sunset Coast fence die cuts, I used Gray Granite cardstock (item 146983), shaded with Gray Granite ink and Early Espresso ink (item 147114).  To highlight the tops of the posts on th fence die cuts I used one of the finger Sponge Daubers (item 133773 - package of five) to apply a little Craft Stampin' White Ink (item 147277).

For the Rolling Waves and Notes & Totes shell die cuts I used Petal Pink cardstock (item 146985) and Very Vanilla cardstock (item 166784), both shaded with Pecan Pie ink, with a little highlighting done using Craft Stampin' White Ink applied with one of the finger Sponge Daubers.

For the Sunset Coast netting die cuts I used Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953), shaded with Crumb Cake ink (item 147116) and Early Espresso ink.

For the Gallery Blooms foliage die cuts I used Old Olive cardstock (item 100702), shaded with Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111).  For a slightly mottled effect on the foliage die cuts I lightly spritzed the shaded die cuts with water using one of the Stampin' Spritzers (item 126185 - package of two), allowing them to air dry.

To shade the die cuts I used one of the Small Blending Brushes (item 160518) to apply the Classic Stampin' inks to the die cuts.

For the Oh My Fright cloud die cuts, and the Sunset Coast seagull die cuts, I used watercolour paper, shaded with Gray Granite ink.  For the seagulls I also added a little Basic Gray ink (item 149165), again adding splatters using my retired Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker.

For the "faux metallic" die cuts I used Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) that was covered with silver foil tape picked up at Home Depot. I used a fine-grit sanding sponge to scruff up the surface of the die cuts before using my fingers to rub black acrylic paint over the die cuts.  I have used this technique several times - including for the ghost earrings last week - and I never get tired of it!!

Just a quick summary of the additional basic tools and supplies I used this week to complete my projects:
  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) for trimming cardstock, watercolour paper, and Designer Series Paper, and for scoring card fold lines.  To ensure crisp folds I also used my Bone Folder (item 102300) to burnish all the folded scored lines;
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) for all die cutting;
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the tacky putty tip is definitely a great help for picking up and placing small die cuts; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
On with the projects!
For the first project I began with a black wood frame from Dollarama, glass removed, inside back dimensions of 7" square.  I used a medium grit sandpaper to distress the edges of the frame.  To complete the project I used the following additional supplies:
  • for the framing mat a 6" square piece of watercolour paper with a 2 3/4" square window opening cut using the Stylish Shapes dies;
  • Poppy Parade cardstock (item 119793), shaded with Real Red ink (item 147084), for the top of the lighthouse;
  • for the sail boat:  I cut the base sail boat from Pecan Pie cardstock (item 161717), shaded with Pecan Pie ink (item 161665) and Early Espresso ink (item 147114); and for the trimmed sail, glued over the base sail boat die cut, I used Very Vanilla cardstock (item 166784), shaded with Pecan Pie ink;
  • Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) for the 6 1/8" square matting panel, and the 7" square base panel;
  • Pecan Pie cardstock for the 6 3/8" square matting panel;
  • I used double-sided tape (Tear & Tape Adhesive - item 154031) to attach the watercolour paper framing mat over the trimmed Scenic Coast DSP background panel - I didn't put the tape too close to the edges of the window opening so that I could tuck some of the die cuts (i.e. the sailboat and one of the trimmed pieces of netting) under the edge of the window opening; and
  • after adding the Pecan Pie cardstock matting panel I used strips trimmed from Foam Adhesive Sheets (item 152815) to attach the fully matted image panel to the Basic Black cardstock base panel.
Additional supplies used to complete this 5 1/4" square top-fold card:
  • Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) for the card base, the sailboat circular frame image, the seagulls, and the sailboat for the inside panel - the wavy line added under the trimmed sentiment strip and the wavy line added to the inside panel are both "punch out" pieces from the sailboat frame die cut - nothing needs to go to waste!;
  • behind the Basic Black cardstock sailboat frame die cut I added two pieces of cardstock:  for the sky Pumpkin Pie cardstock (item 105117), shaded with Pumpkin Pie ink (item 147086) and lightly misted with water; and for the water Azure Afternoon cardstock (item 161719);
  • for the two Rolling Waves die cuts that were stacked and then glued over the Basic Black cardstock sailboat frame die cut I used:  for the base die cut Coastal Cabana cardstock (item 131297), shaded with Pool Party ink (item 147107) and lightly misted with water; and for the top wave die cut Pool Party cardstock (item 122924), also shaded with Pool Party ink;
  • for the framing mat a 4 13/16" square piece of watercolour paper with 2 3/4" square window opening cut using the Stylish Shapes dies;
  • I used double-sided tape (Tear & Tape Adhesive - item 154031) to attach the watercolour paper framing mat over the completed die cut image panel;
  • strips trimmed from Foam Adhesive Sheets (item 152815) to attach the framed die cut image panel to the card base;
  • I used VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink to stamp the sentiment on watercolour paper - the stamped strip was then trimmed using the Paper Trimmer; and
  • Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) for the 5" square inside panel - I used my retired Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to add splatters.
Additional supplies used to complete this 4" square top-fold card:
  • Night Of Navy cardstock (item 100867) for the card base;
  • Misty Moonlight cardstock (item 153081), shaded with Misty Moonlight ink (item 153118), for the top of the lighthouse, and for the base sailboat die cut (inside of card);
  • watercolour paper for the 2 3/4" square frame with 2 1/8" diameter circle window, cut using the Stylish Shapes dies - I used low tack tape to hold the square and circle dies together while I passed the dies and watercolour paper through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine;
  • Crumb Cake ink (item 147116), mixed with a little water, for the splatters on the frame - I flicked over the frame the paint brush used to mix the ink and water;
  • after gluing the netting and lighthouse die cuts to the back of the frame I glued the trimmed panel of Let's Go Fishing DSP to the back of the frame;
  • before gluing the Let's Go Fishing DSP 1" x 4" and 1/2" x 3 1/2" strips to the card front and inside panel respectively, I sponged all edges of the DSP strips with Early Espresso ink (item 147114);
  • strips trimmed from Foam Adhesive Sheets (item 152815) to attach the completed die cut image frame panel to the card front; and
  • Very Vanilla cardstock (item 166784) for the 3 1/2" square inside panel, and the sailboat sail that was glued over the Misty Moonlight cardstock base sailboat die cut.
For all three of the "faux metallic" pieces (3" x 2 3/8", 3 1/4" x 2", and 3" in diameter) - which can be used as tags, as focal images on cards or gift packaging, as pieces for a themed art or junk journal, or made into magnets with the addition of some magnetic tape on the back side - I used Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) for the bases and frames.  The base die cuts were glued to the back of the frames with wrong sides together so that there would be a finished back side.  I first glued the main die cut to the back of the frame before adding the base panel and then the additional die cuts.  On the luggage tag I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch the hole for and to set the eyelet (purchased at my local papercrafting shop).

And finally . . .

My sister and I had a lot of fun as customers at a local Craft Destash Market last weekend - and I was fortunate to pick up some retired Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets (among a few other goodies!) - including the A Kind Word wood block mounted stamp set (item 113194) that was featured in the Spring-Sumer 2009 Idea Book & Catalogue.  For my Archie project this week, included at the bottom of this blog post, I stamped one of the images from this stamp set on watercolour paper, colouring the image panel using Pumpkin Pie ink (item 147086), Calypso Coral ink (item 147101), Pecan Pie ink refill (item 161669), Crumb Cake ink refill (item 121029), Misty Moonlight ink (item 153118), Real Red ink (item 147084), Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111), and Gray Granite ink (item 147118).  For the framing mat I used a piece of watercolour paper, trimmed to fit the 6" x 4" back dimensions of a Dollarama frame (glass removed), over which I had glued a 1 3/4" wide strip of a neutral patterned paper from the retired Online Exclusives One Horse Open Sleigh 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 162118), and used a 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" die from the retired Stitched Rectangles dies (item 151820) to cut the window opening.  After gluing the frame over the image panel I added splatters over both using my retired Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, and added a torn strip of backing paper peeled off some corrugated cardboard packaging and a button from my stash through which I threaded some Gray Granite baker's twine (Baker's Twine Essentials Pack - item 155475).
