Easter Treat Holders

(part 1 of 2)

Hello!  Easter is fast approaching so today I am sharing a few Easter treat holder projects I have been working on this week.  I really enjoy working on Easter/Spring projects - you can use bright vibrant colours or more subtle pastel colours - they all are perfect for Spring! (and also I can't resist the Easter treats . . .)
Double Flip Lid Easter Basket
For this project I followed the instructions provided by Sam Calcott (mixedupcrafts.com) in her March 17, 2021, You Tube video "Double Flip Lid Basket" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyBEJdxo5bs].  This basket, which measures 5" tall (excluding the handle) x 8" wide x 5 1/4" deep, will hold quite a few treats!  I will not re-iterate the assembly instructions but have provided below the cardstock measurements:
  • for the basket base - 7 1/4" x 10" - scored at 1" on all four sides'
  • basket corner "hinges" - 4 strips 2" x 5", scored at 1" on the 2" side;
  • long horizontal strips (for the front and back of the basket) - 6 strips 1" x 7 7/8";
  • short horizontal strips (for the two sides of the basket) - 6 strips 1" x 5 1/8";
  • vertical weaving strips (for front, back and sides of the basket) - 12 strips 1" x 4 7/8" - four of the strips are used on each of the font and back of the basket and two strips are used on each of the sides;
  • for the lid - I had to adjust the measurements for my lid to 10 1/4" x 7 1/2" - scored at 1" on all four sides and, in addition, on the 10 1/4" side, scored at 4 1/2" from each end - to ensure a proper fit for the lid my suggestion would be to make a prototype of the lid from some less than premium cardstock before cutting into your premium cardstock; and
  • for the handle - 1 1/4" x 11" - to make my handle a little stronger I used two handle strips (and then added the decorative strip).
Instead of using acetate to back the woven strips I used cardstock - for the front and back of the basket just under 8" x just under 5"; and for the two sides of the basket just under 5"x just under 5".
For the basket base, the long and short horizontal strips, and the weaving strips, I used Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953); and for the corner hinges, the lid, handle strips, and the panels behind the woven strips I used Soft Suede cardstock (item 115318).  To add texture I scored each of the long and short horizontal strips, the weaving strips, and the 1" sides of the base, at 1/8" intervals using a stylus and my scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) and then lightly sponged each using Soft Suede ink (item 147115).  I also sponged all the Soft Suede cardstock pieces with Soft Suede ink.  For the center decorative handle strip I used Pumpkin Pie cardstock (item 105117) - 1" x 11".  For the decorative paper panels on the top of the basket lid and the sides of the basket lid I used Flowering Fields 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 157670) - the top panels are the reverse side of the same paper used on the sides.
The bunny image, from the Easter Friends stamp set (item 157737), was stamped on watercolour paper using Stazon Saddle Brown Ink (item 151508) and coloured using watercolour pencils - Early Espresso and Pumpkin Pie (for the nose) from the Watercolour Pencils - Assortment 1 (item 141709) and Balmy Blue from Assortment 2 (item 149014).  The image circle and the Evening Evergreen cardstock (item 155574) scalloped circle were both cut using the Layering Circles dies (item 151770).  The flowers and leaves adhered to the bunny image were cut using the Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312) - the large flower from Pumpkin Pie cardstock, the smaller flower from Mango Melody cardstock (item 146989), the flower center from Soft Suede cardstock, and the leaves from Evening Evergreen cardstock.  I used several Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach the bunny image circle to the base of the handle - being careful not to impede the opening and closing of either of the lid panels.  The leafy branch on the handle was cut from Evening Evergreen cardstock using the Birds & More dies (item 152721).  I added Pearl Basic Jewels (item 144219) to the flower center and the leafy branch.  The orange gingham ribbon I picked up at Dollar Tree - a very good match to Pumpkin Pie!  Through the center of the ribbon bow I tied a bow using Evening Evergreen baker's twine (Fan Baker's Twine - item 158143).

S'mores Bunny Flip Top Box
For this 4 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 3/4" deep flip top box to hold the little S'mores Bunny I picked up at Dollar Tree I scored a 9" x 6 1/2" piece of Coastal Cabanna cardstock (item 131297) as follows:  on the 9" side at 3/4", 4 1/4", 5", and 8 1/2" (the 1/2" tab is the glue tab); and on the 6 1/2" side at 3/4", 5 1/4", and 6".  I have also attached a photo of my template showing orientation and where I made additional cuts (hopefully my printing is legible enough!):
Before assembling the box I glued on the DSP panel to the front panel of the box - a 3 3/8" x 4 3/8" piece of Coastal Cabanna DSP from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Brights (item 155228).  I then cut the window opening using the large curved label from the Stitched So Sweetly dies (item 151690) and adhered the approximately 4" x 3" acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314) panel to the inside of the front panel behind the window opening.

For the carrots I first embossed some Pumpkin Pie cardstock (item 105117) using the stripes embossing folder (Stripes & Splatters 3D Embossing Folders - item 157980) and then cut out the carrot shapes using the Stitched Triangles dies (item  152710).  I cut the leafy stems from Garden Green cardstock (item 102584) using the Meadow dies (item155852) - trimming the "leaves" from the die cut as required. Again, I used some of my Dollar Tree orange and white gingham ribbon to tie the bow around the box. (After removing the bunny from his original packaging and before "relocating" him to the new box, I placed him in a food-safe plastic envelope/bag).

Bird on Flowering Branch Lidded Box
I made this 5 1/2" long x 3 1/2" wide x 3/4" deep lidded box to hold a package of mini eggs I picked up at Dollarama.  I used Calypso Coral cardstock (item 122925) cut and scored as follows for the bottom and lid:
  • for the bottom - 7" x 5" - scored at 3/4" on all four sides; and
  • for the lid - 7 1/16" x 5 1/16" - also scored at 3/4" on all four sides.
For the lid I matted the Calypso Coral DSP (6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Subtles - item 155229) with Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953) allowing for a 1/16" border.  For the center panel I cut a piece of Early Espresso cardstock (item 119686) using the Stitched Rectangles dies (item 151820), and a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock using the Scalloped Contours dies (item 155560).  Around the Crumb Cake panel I stamped in Soft Suede Ink (item 147115) the "dots" using the dotty stamp from the Forever Fern stamp set (item 152559).  The bird and the leafy branch were cut using the Birds & More dies (item 152721) - for the bird I cut one out of Early Espresso cardstock, a body only out of Balmy Blue cardstock (item 146982), and a beak out of a tiny scrap of Mango Melody cardstock (item 146989) - the leafy branch was cut from Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676).  I trimmed the end of the leafy branch to match the scalloped edge of the Crumb Cake panel.  I sponged the body of the bird lightly with Misty Moonlight Ink (item 153118).  The little Calypso Coral coardstock flowers were cut using the Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312).  I used Classic Matte Dots (item 158146) for the bird's eye (Basic Black) and for the flowers' centers (Very Vanilla).  I used Crumb Cake baker's twine (Baker's Twine Essentials Pack - item 155475) to tie the bow around the box.  I used a 1/2" circle punch to make the thumb notches in the front and back sides of the lid.

And finally for today . . .

Speckled Egg Lidded Window Box
For this little box that measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 3/4" deep, I cut and scored Melon Mambo cardstock as follows:
  • for the bottom of the box - 4" x 4" - scored at 3/4" on all four sides; and
  • for the lid of the box - 4 1/16" x 4 1/16" - also scored at 3/4" on all four sides.
Before assembling the lid I glued on the Melon Mambo DSP panel (6" x 6" Designer Series Paper - Assortments - Brights - item 155228) to the top panel of the lid and then cut out the circle window using the Layering Circles dies (item 151770).  Before adhering the just slightly over 2" square piece of acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314) to the inside of the top of the lid behind the window opening I glued on the Melon Mambo cardstock scalloped circle frame to the top of the lid (to avoid getting any glue on the acetate).  The scalloped circle frame was also cut using the Layering Circles dies.  This little box holds quite a few of the little speckled eggs I found at Dollar Tree.  For the bow I used some paper ribbon that I had picked up at Dollarama that matched pretty closely the green of some of the speckled eggs!

I certainly had a lot of fun working on these projects - you can never have too many treat holders!  A little treat holder is great to leave on a colleague's desk, for classmates, or as a favour for your Easter dinner table!  A larger project, such as the Double Flip Lid Easter Basket, will hold quite a few Easter goodies for a special someone!
