Hearts & Flowers (and a robot too!)

Valentine Treat Holders

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few easy treat holders I made using Stampin' Up! cardstock, designer series paper, stamps, and embellishments, for some Valentine treats I picked up at Dollar Tree and Dollarama.
Lidded Window Boxes for Little Debbie Valentine Cake Twin Pack
I couldn't resist these cute little Valentine cakes - and they taste pretty good too!  (Although there are five twin packs in the box I only made four boxes as I had to sample for the sake of quality control . . .)  These little boxes were fun to make too!  They measure 5 1/2" long x 2 1/2" wide x 1" deep. I used the following supplies to complete the boxes:
  • Blushing Bride cardstock (item 131198);
  • Early Espresso cardstock (item 119686);
  • Mint Macaron cardstock (item 138337);
  • Sahara Sand cardstock (item 121043);
  • Balmy Blue cardstock (item 146982);
  • Pear Pizzazz cardstock (item 131201);
  • Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder (item 157641) - to cut stitched hearts and for embossed Sahara Sand cardstock panels;
  • 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Neutrals (item 155226) - Sahara Sand and Early Espresso - and Subtles (item 155229) - Mint Macaron;
  • Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312) - to cut flowers and leaves;
  • Birds & More dies (item 152721) - to cut small hearts;
  • Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) - stitched heart;
  • Stitched Rectangles dies (item 151820) - to cut window openings:
  • acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314);
  • Simply Elegant Trim (item 155766) - gold cord;
  • Baker's Twine Essentials Pack (item 155475) - Very Vanilla;
  • Linen Thread (item 104199);
  • Real Red Faux Linen Ribbon (item 158129);
  • Classic Matte Dots (item 158146) - Very Vanilla;
  • Bumblebee Trinkets (item 155568);
  • Metallic Pearls (item 146282) - gold;
  • Sale-A-Bration papers:  Sunshine & Rainbows 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 158126) and Simply Marbleous 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 158128); and
  • 1" circle punch to cut the thumb notches on two sides of each box lid.
One sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock will make one box - lid and base.  (For my first box I used Early Espresso cardstock for the base and Blushing Bride cardstock for the lid).  For the base I cut and scored the cardstock as follows:  7 1/2" x 4 1/2" - scored at 1" on all four sides; for the lid I cut and scored the cardstock as follows: 7 9/16" x 4 9/16" - scored at 1" on all four sides.  Before assembling the lid I adhered the DSP panel to the top and then cut the window using the Stitched Rectangle dies (3 11/16" x 1 11/16" opening), and then adhered the acetate panel.

Lidded Boxes for Chocolate Hearts
I made these little boxes in three different heights: 3 1/2" tall to hold six chocolate hearts; 3" tall to hold five chocolate hearts; and 2 1/2" tall to hold four chocolate hearts.  Each box has the same size of lid (cardstock measures 3 1/16" x 3 1/16" and is scored at 3/4" on all four sides).  The following are the measurements for the box bases:
  • for 3 1/2" tall box:  6 1/2" x 5" - scored on the 6 1/2" side at 1 1/2", 3", 4 1/2", and 6"; and scored on the 5" side at 1 1/2";
  • for 3" tall box:  6 1/2" x 4 1/2" - scored as above on the 6 1/2" side and at 1 1/2" on the 4 1/2" side; and
  • for the 2 1/2" tall box:  6 1/2" x 4" - scored as above on the 6 1/2" side and again at 1 1/2" on the 4" side.
For the 3 1.2" tall box I used Poppy Parade cardstock (item 119793) for the lid and base of the box.  I cut the decorative panels for the sides of the box and center of the lid from the new Flowering Fields 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 157670).  The small stitched heart was cut from Calypso Coral cardstock (item 122925) using the smaller of the two heart dies included with the Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder (item 157641),  To embellish the stitched heart and the lower front DSP panel I used one large and two small white enamel dots (the new Classic Matte Dots from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalogue - item 158146).  After adhering the stitched heart to the side of the lid I wrapped some of the new Poppy Parade/white baker's twine (from Fan Baker's Twine - item 158143) around the sides of the lid and tied a bow.
For the 3" tall box I used Flirty Flamingo cardstock (item 141416) for the base and lid, and the stitched heart (again cut using the smaller of the two dies included with the Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder - item 157641). The small heart adhered to the center of the stitched heart was cut from Calypso Coral cardstock (item 122925) using the small heart die from the Birds & More dies (item 152721) The decorative panels were also cut from the Flowering Fields 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 157670).  I used Very Vanilla baker's twine (Baker's Twine Essentials Pack - item 155475) to tie the bow around the edges of the lid; and a large Very Vanilla enamel dot (Classic Matte Dots - item 158146) to embellish the center of the Calypso Coral cardstock heart.
For the smallest box I used Gorgeous Grape cardstock (item 146987) for the lid and base, and for the flower.  The stitched heart (yes - cut using the smaller of the Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder heart dies - item 157641!) and the center of the flower were cut from Highland Heather cardstock (item 146986).  The leaves were cut from Pear Pizzazz cardstock (item 131201).  I used the Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312) to cut the flower, flower center, and leaves.  The decorative panels for the box sides and the center of the lid were cut from the Sale-A-Bration Gorgeous Grape Simply Marbleous 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 158128).  For the lid sides I used small scraps of Gorgeous Grape DSP from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Brights - item 155228),  To the center of the flower I added a silver pearl (Metallic Pearls - item 146282); and used silver cord from Simply Elegant Trim (item 155766) to tie the bow around the lid.

Squat Mini Milk Carton
This "little" milk carton (the "body" of the milk carton is 2" tall by 2 1/2" wide) will hold quite a few of the chocolate hearts - if you really are feeling generous!  I used Bumblebee cardstock (item 153077) cut and scored as follows:  6" x 10 1/2" - scored on the 10 1/2" side at 2 1/2", 5", 7 1/2", and 10"; and scored on the 6" side at 2", 4", and 5 1/2".  For the six decorative panels I used some of the new black and white All Together 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 160039 - and which will be available starting February 1, 2022)  The stitched heart was cut from a scrap of the Sale-A-Bration Sunshine & Rainbows 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 158126); the little heart, cut using the small heart from the Birds & More dies (item 152721), was cut from Polished Pink cardstock (item 155710); and the leaves, cut using the Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312), were cut from Pear Pizzazz cardstock (item 131201).  To embellish the heart I added one of the Bumblebee Trinkets (item 155568).  To my Dollarama black clothespin that I used as a closure, I glued a Bumblebee 1/4" Gingham Ribbon (item 153658) bow.
Robot Heart Pouch

I slightly amended the cutting dimensions and scoring for this pouch treat holder that I had previously used for Halloween and Christmas, and which holds a 3" x 3" Zip-Lock Polybag (purchased at Dollar Tree).  Four of the chocolate hearts fit into the little bag. I cut the Sahara Sand cardstock (item 121043) 9" x 3 1/2", and on the 9" side scored at 3", 3 1/2", 7", and 7 1/2".  On the underside of the flap I put three little dollops of Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755) and left them to dry (as the glue remains tacky the dollops create a non-permanent closure for the pouch - an alternative to using velcro dots).  I stamped the robot and the sentiment, both from the Nuts & Bolts stamp set (item 157650) in Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406) on Sahara Sand cardstock.  To colour the robot heart I used Real Red and Cherry Cobbler watercolour pencils (Watercolour Pencils Assortment 1 and Assortment 2 - items 141709 and 149014 respectively) - but did not add water or use a blending pen (I essentially used the watercolour pencils as regular colour pencils).  I used the Layering Circle dies (item 151770) to cut the robot and sentiment circles; the scalloped circles from Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) and Poppy Parade cardstock (Item 119793).  The sentiment circle was glued to the inside of the front panel.  I used Poppy Parade cardstock for the mats for the DSP panels.  For the DSP panels I used Sahara Sand patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Neutrals (item 155226).  Around the top flap I wrapped Crumb Cake baker's twine (Baker's Twine Essentials Pack - item 155475).  I used two Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach the robot circle to the top flap.  To embellish the front panel I added one small and one large Basic Black enamel dot (Classic Matte Dots - item 158146).

Lidded Window Box for "Love Bandit" (Palmer Cuddly Cuties)
This "Love Bandit" (one of the Palmer Cuddly Cuties) was another chocolate treat that I could not resist (although I don't have quite the same reaction when I see a real racoon ambling across my back garden . . .) I removed this little cutie from his original packaging, placing him in a small clear food-safe bag before re-homing him in his new box.
To make this box I used the following supplies:
  • Real Red cardstock (item 102482) - for the lid and base (and flower):  for the base I cut the cardstock 6 1/4" x 5 3/4" and scored at 1" on all four sides; for the lid I cut the cardstock 6 5/16" x 5 13/16" and again scored at 1" on all four sides;
  • Early Espresso cardstock (item 119686) - used for the mat for the lid's DSP panel, the window frame, and the small heart;
  • Garden Green cardstock (item 102584) - for the leaves;
  • 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Regals (item 155227) - Real Red used for the DSP panels for the top and sides of the lid;
  • Layering Circle dies (item 151770) circle to cut the window opening, and same size circle and next size up scalloped circle to cut the frame;
  • Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312) to cut the flower and leaves;
  • Classic Matte Dots (item 158146) - Very Vanilla;
  • Soft Suede Ink (item 147115) - used to ink around the edges of the window opening before adhering the window frame (as I did not have any Early Espresso ink on hand I used Soft Suede in substitution);
  • acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314);
  • Real Red Faux Linen Ribbon (item 158129); and
  • 1" circle punch to cut the thumb notches in two sides of the lid.
Before cutting the window opening I adhered the Early Espresso cardstock mat and the DSP panel to the top of the lid - because there were a few layers to cut through I did have to run the sandwich through my Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) a couple of times.  In order to have the little face show through the window the top of the circle is approximately 1" below the top edge of the lid.  Before adhering the acetate panel to the underside of the lid behind the window opening I adhered the window frame - this way I avoided getting any glue on the acetate.  Tip:  when adding a frame around a window opening when the frame is not the same colour as the window opening layer it can be a good idea to ink the edges of the window opening with ink that is the same colour (or as close as possible) as the colour of the frame  After adhering the acetate panel to the underside of the lid I completed the assembly of the lid, including adhering the DSP panels to the sides, and adhering the flower/heart/leaves and matte dot embellishments.

And finally . . .

Lidded Box for Laura Secord Valentine Candy Mini Eggs
I am not sure if Mini Eggs are really a Valentine treat but why quibble?  The box I made to hold this little package is the same box that I have previously made (Halloween etc.) following the instructions provided by Polly's Paper Studio Day 2 of 13 Days of Halloween - Vintage Treat Bag (September 25, 2019), but this time instead of a handle I added a lid.  The box measures 5" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 1" deep.

To make the box I used the following supplies:
  • Polished Pink cardstock (item 155710) for the base of the box:  10" x 6" - scored on the 10" side at 1", 4 1/2", 5 1/2", and 9"; and scored on the 6" side at 1".  Also used to cut the hearts and the scalloped edge trim;
  • Real Red cardstock (item 102482) - used for the lid:  5 9/16" x 3 1/16", scored at 1" on all four sides;
  • 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Regals (item 155227) - Real Red - used for all DSP panels for the base of the box and the top of the lid;
  • Scalloped Contours dies (item 155560) - I used the scalloped edge die to cut the Polished Pink cardstock strip I trimmed and adhered to the inside of the front side of the lid; and the 2 1/2" x 3 3/4" scalloped rectangle to cut the sentiment panel from Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) that I adhered to the back of the box;
  • Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder (item 157641) - I used the smaller of the two heart dies to cut the Polished Pink cardstock stitched hearts;
  • Birds & More dies (item 152721) to cut the small Polished Pink cardstock heart;
  • Nuts & Bolts stamp set (item 157650) to stamp the "You make my heart go beep" sentiment in Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406); and
  • Real Red 3/8" Faux Linen Ribbon (item 158129) to tie the bow around the lid.
