Sticky Notepad and Pen Book-Style Holder

(a great idea for a last-minute gift!)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a project that might make a nice gift for a teacher or co-worker.  This book-style holder holds a 3" x 5" sticky notepad and co-ordinating pen (both of which were purchased at Dollar Tree). For the patterned paper panels I used the Dandy Garden and You're A Peach Designer Series Papers (DSP).  For this project I wanted to focus on the Calypso Coral colour of the Dandy Garden DSP and I thought the You're A Peach DSP (item 155686) was a perfect compliment.  (Hopefully you were able to pick up the Dandy Garden DSP when it was recently available on the Clearance Rack).,

For the base of the "book" I cut two pieces of Basic Black cardstock (item 121045):
  • the first piece measures 9 3/8" by 6" and is scored on the 9 3/8" side at 4 1/2" and 4 7/8"; and
  • the second piece measures 3 5/8" by 6" and is scored on the 3 5/8" side at 1" and 1 3/8".
*each piece of cardstock in this photo is shown lying inside facing up
After burnishing all score lines using my bone folder, I applied glue on the inside left side of the second piece of cardstock up to the 1" score line:  the second piece of cardstock is glued to the outside of the the right edge of the first piece of cardstock (the right edge of the first piece of cardstock is lined up to the 1" score line on the second piece of cardstock) - this will provide a 3/8" spine on both edges of the "book".

In reference to the orientation of the two pieces of cardstock in the above photo, the first piece of cardstock is folded so that the outside or underside of the left side will become the front cover of the "book"; the second piece of cardstock is folded so that the outside or underside of the right side will overlap the front cover of the "book" and thereby also form part of the front cover.

For the closure of the "book" and to ensure that the two panels forming the front cover will stay together when the "book" is closed, I glued a 3/8" magnet (Basic Grey - Small Magnetic Discs - purchased at my local scrapbooking store) to the inside panel of the second piece of cardstock and to the outside/underside (front) of the first piece of cardstock (being sure that one magnetic disc is marked "+" and one is marked "-") before gluing on the DSP panels.

Before gluing the sticky notepad into the "book" I glued a piece of cardboard to the back of the notepad just to provide a little more stability.  Before gluing the cardboard-backed notepad to the inside panel of the "book" I glued down the cardstock strip (with DSP panel) that holds the pen.  The Basic Black cardstock strip measures 4 3/4" long by 3/4" wide.  After gluing on the DSP panel I slightly curved the strip using my bone folder.

The flower and leaf cardstock embellishments were cut from Calypso Coral cardstock (item 122925), Bumblebee cardstock (item 153077), Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676), and Basic White cardstock (item 159276) using the Pierced Blooms dies (item 154312).

Around the "book" I tied a bow using the Mossy Meadow 3/8" Diagonal Stripe Ribbon (item 153542 - which is currently available on the Clearance Rack!)
I had a lot of fun working on this project and hope you will have fun working on your sticky note and pen book-style holder!  Not too late to make a few last minute gifts!
