A Few Christmas Gift/Treat Boxes

(and a bag!)

Hello!  I am sharing today a few simple Christmas gift/treat boxes (and a bag!) that I made using some Stampin' Up! cardstock, designer series paper (DSP), and a few dies.  This is certainly the time of year when we might need some cute little boxes (or bags!) at the last minute to hold some special treats or a small gift!

For my first three window boxes, which each measure 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 1", I followed the box construction instructions provided by Stamping With Amore in her December 5, 2021, You Tube video "DIY Christmas Candy Boxes With Window" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4nDps8-1f8) - although I did not include the interior dividers.  She provided an excellent tip that by cutting the cardstock for the bottom of the box 1/16" smaller than the top (or cutting the cardstock for the top of the box 1/16" larger than the bottom) rather than using the same cutting dimensions for both the top and the bottom, there will be a nicer fit of the lid over the bottom of the box.  In her video she provided the following cutting dimensions for the cardstock:
  • for the top of the box - 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", scored at 1" on all four sides; and
  • for the bottom of the box - 5 11/16" x 5 11/16", also scored at 1" on all four sides.
I adhered the DSP decorative panel to the top of each box before I cut the window using the Layering Circles dies (item 151770).  I also used the Layering Circle dies (circle and scalloped circle) to cut the cardstock window frames.  A 3" x 3" piece of acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314) was glued to the underside of the lid before assembling the lid.  I also used a 1/2" circle punch to cut the thumb holes on two edges of each lid.
For the two poinsettia boxes I also used the following supplies:
  • Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676)'
  • Basic Black cardstock (item 121045);
  • Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper (item 153492) - for the Mossy Meadow box;
  • Peaceful Place Specialty Designer Series Paper (item 156394) - for the Basic Black box;
  • Poinsettia dies (item 153522) to cut the flowers, leaves, and sprigs: for the Mossy Meadow box I used Real Red cardstock (item 102482) for the flower; Mossy Meadow cardstock for the leaves; Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) for the top flower center and the sprigs; and Brushed Metallic cardstock (item 153524) for the bottoms flower center; andd for the Basic Black box I used Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) for the flower; Basic Gray cardstock (item 121044) for the leaves; and Black Glitter Paper (item 153518) for the sprigs;
  • silver cord from Simply Elegant Trim (item 155766) - used on the Basic Black box; and
  • a black button from my stash (tied with some silver cord) for the center of the white poinsettia.
For my third window box I used Shaded Spruce cardstock (item 146981) - such a pretty colour! - and Expressions In Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper (item 155464) - I was trying to match as closely as possible the colour of the wrappers of the Andes mint chocolates! The "Merry Christmas" sentiment (from the Perfectly Plaid stamp set - item 158335) was stamped in Shaded Spruce ink (item 147088) on Shaded Spruce cardstock that was then cut using the Tailor Made Tags dies (item 155563).  I added gold cord from Simply Elegant Trim.

I used Basic White Thick cardstock for my fourth, and slightly larger, box (4" x 4" x 2").  The thicker cardstock provides a little more stability for a larger box. For the bottom of the box I cut the cardstock at 8" x 8" and scored at 2" on all four sides; for the top of the box I cut the cardstock at 8 1/16" x 8 1/16" and also scored at 2" on all four sides.  I used Expressions In Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper for the decorative panels for the top and four sides of the lid.  I used the Poinsettia dies to cut the flower (Real Red cardstock); leaves (Garden Green cardstock - item 102584); flower center - bottom from Basic White Thick cardstock and top from Brushed Metallic cardstock.  The skeleton leaves and branch were cut from Brushed Metallic cardstock using the Intricate Leaves dies (item 153566).  I used a 1" circle punch to cut the thumb holes on two sides of the lid (after adhering the DSP panels).  I tied a bow around the box using some of the Real Red 1" Ruched Ribbon I still had in my stash (this ribbon was from the 2019 Holiday Catalogue).

And finally . . .
Not a box, but a Santa gift bag made using the All Dressed Up dies (item 151665).  I used Real Red cardstock for the bag and handles; Basic White Thick cardstock for the "fur" panel; Basic Black for the belt (cut using the strap die); and Brushed Metallic cardstock for the two buttons.  I used the Scalloped Contours dies (item 155560) to cut the "fur" panel (I cut the die cut panel in half lengthwise to remove some of the width and added a narrow strip of Basic Black cardstock down the center).  I added a little bow made with the Black & White 1/4" Gingham Ribbon (item 156485) to one handle.

I of course had a lot of fun making these boxes (and gift bag!) and hope you have fun making and decorating your Christmas gift and treat boxes (and bags!).
