Flowers Of Home!

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few projects I worked on this week combining images of "home" with die cut flowers - summer seems to have arrived (certainly the summer temperatures have!) and flowers are starting to bloom!  For my images of home I used images from the From Our Home stamp set (item 163680) featured in the Stampin' Up! May 2024-April 2025 Annual Catalogue, as well as a birdhouse cut using the Country Birdhouse dies (item 163400), and an MDF house shape from Dollar Tree that I covered with woodgrain paper from the Country Woods 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 163393) and to which I added a window frame recycled from a Christmas ornament.

Both sentiments I used are from the From Our Home stamp set.

I used dies from the Simply Zinnia dies (item 163479), and the Country Birdhouse dies to cut the flowers.  For additional foliage - including stems and leaves - I used the Simply Zinnia dies, Country Flowers dies (item 163410), Delicate Forest dies (item 162679), Grove dies (item 157844), and Encircled In Nature dies (item 163628).

Just a quick note regarding the basic tools and supplies I used to complete my projects this week:

  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) - for trimming paper and cardstock - can also be used for scoring;
  • stylus and scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) - for scoring fold lines.  To ensure crisp folds I also burnish all folded scored lines using my Bone Folder (item 102300).  I also used the Bone Folder to help curl petals and leaves;
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) - for all die cutting and embossing;
  • Paper Snips Scissors (item 103579) - these small sharp scissors are very handy for trimming die cuts (i.e. snipping off a few leaves etc.);
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the paper piercer, mini spatula, and tacky putty tips are a great help for picking up and placing small die cuts and embellishments; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
To apply ink to add some shading to die cuts I used Small Blending Brushes (item 160518).  To stamp images and sentiments I used Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406).

On with the projects!

For the first project I used a woodgrain easel frame with a 4" square opening from Dollar Tree - after using one of these frames for a project a few weeks ago I went back and picked up a few more!  To complete this project I used the following additional supplies:
  • watercolour paper for the stamped house image, which was watercoloured using Crumb Cake Ink Refill (item 121029) and Basic Gray ink (item 149165);
  • a 4" square piece of Misty Moonlight woodgrain patterned paper from Country Woods 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 163393) for the image mat - I used the 2 1/8" diameter circle die from the Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) to cut the window opening;

  • Peach Pie cardstock (item 163799) and Pumpkin Pie cardstock (item 105117) for the die cut flowers - shaded with Pumpkin Pie ink (item 147086);
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock (item 119683) for the "star" flower center for the large flower (zinnia) - I cut additional individual stars to "build up" the base star circle - all shaded with Daffodil Delight ink (item 147094);
  • Pecan Pie cardstock (item 161717) for the oval base flower center - shaded with Pecan Pie ink (item 161665), and the larger circles for the centers of the three small flowers (these circles are the centers of the large circle die from the Country Birdhouse dies);
  • Early Espresso cardstock (item 119686) for the small circles for the centers of the three small flowers (these circles are the centers from the double circle die from the Mini Pocket Envelope dies (item 159167); and

  • Old Olive cardstock (item 100702), Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676), and Lemon Lime Twist cardstock (item 144245) for the die cut foliage - shaded with Old Olive ink (item 147090) and Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111).

Additional supplies used to complete this 4" x 5 1/2" top-fold card:
  • Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) for the card base, the 3 3/8" x 4 5/8" matting panel (the edges of which I scraped with the blade of my craft knife), and the larger circle centers for both flowers (these circles are the centers of the large circle die from the Country Birdhouse dies);
  • watercolour paper for the stamped houses image, sentiment label, and the die cut foliage - foliage coloured using Old Olive ink (item 147090) and Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111);
  • Crumb Cake Ink Refill (item 121029) to colour the image, and Crumb Cake Ink (item 147116) to shade the sentiment label;
  • Deckled Rectangles dies (item 159173) to cut the image panel;

  • Perennial Postage dies (item 162607) to cut the sentiment label;

  • Lemon Lolly cardstock (item 161720) and Daffodil Delight cardstock (item 119683) for the flowers;
  • Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953) for the small circle centers for the flowers - these circles are the centers of the double circle die from the Mini Pocket Envelope dies (item 159167); and
  • Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach the sentiment label.

For the third project I used a black plastic arched easel frame from Dollar Tree that has a 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" opening - these frames caught my eye as I thought they might work out well with the arched die from the Garden Meadow dies (item 162740) . . . 🤔

I used the following additional supplies to complete this week's project:
  • Pool Party woodgrain patterned paper from Country Woods 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 163393) for the background panel - the DSP was glued to the cardboard panel that came with the frame;
  • Real Red cardstock (item 102482) for the main portion of the birdhouse.  Prior to die cutting I embossed the cardstock panel using the Timber 3D Embossing Folder (item 156406) the inside panel of which I had inked with Real Red ink (item 147084) by dragging the ink pad over the raised design.  Although very subtle the tone on tone effect does help give a little more dimension to the embossed design I think - I used the same technique for the base section of the birdhouse and perch circle but using Pecan Pie cardstock (item 161717) and Pecan Pie ink (item 161665), and for the middle roof section and frame around hole but using Basic Gray cardstock (item 121044) and Basic Gray ink (item 149165);
  • Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) for the roof's decorative trim, and the larger circles for the flower centers (these circles are the centers of the large circle die from the Country Birdhouse dies);
  • Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) for the roof, hole, support pole, and small circles for flower centers (these circles are the centers of the double circle die from the Mini Pocket Envelope dies - item 159167);
  • Lemon Lolly cardstock (item 161720) and Daffodil Delight cardstock (item 119683) for the flowers - some shading done with Daffodil Delight ink (item 147094);
  • Lemon Lime Twist cardstock (item 144245), Old Olive cardstock (item 100702), and Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676) for the foliage - shaded with Old Olive ink (item 147090) and Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111); and
  • 3/4" diameter circle die from Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) - used together with the large circle die from Country Birdhouse dies - to cut the embossed Basic Gray cardstock frame - additional Basic Gray ink sponged around the frame.
And finally . . .
With regard to non- Stampin' Up! products for this project in addition to the Dollar Tree MDF house shape and window frame recycled from a Christmas ornament I used a black pre-painted 8" x 10" canvas board from Dollar Tree, and a glass-less 13" x 11" woodgrain frame (with an 8" x 10" opening) I had on hand - I am a bit of a collector of frames!  After painting the edges of the house with black acrylic paint I covered the front with Pecan Pie woodgrain patterned paper from the Country Woods 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 163393) - using a fine grit sandpaper to distress all edges.  I used some more of the Transparency Film that I used last week for the luggage tags behind the window frame before gluing a trimmed panel of Night of Navy checked patterned paper from the Take To The Sky 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 163436) to the back of the window frame.  The circles used for the flower centers, as previously mentioned, are the centers of the large circle die from the Country Birdhouse dies.  In addition to the Simply Zinnia, Country Flowers, Encircled In Nature, Delicate Forest, and Grove dies used for the foliage I decided that the large coral die from the Beauty Of The Deep dies (item 161236) could make good euonymus shrubs!
Beauty Of The Deep dies - 161236
I used Lemon Lime Twist cardstock (item 144245), Old Olive cardstock (item 100702), Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676), and Garden Green cardstock (item 102584) for the foliage - using Old Olive ink (item 147090) and Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111) for shading.

For the flowers I used the following cardstock:
  • Petunia Pop (item 163801) and Berry Burst (item 144243) - shaded with Berry Burst ink (item 147143) - and Petunia Pop alone but also shaded with Berry Burst ink - Daffodil Delight (item 119683) for the circle centers for the small flowers;
  • Lemon Lolly (item 161720) and Daffodil Delight - shaded with Daffodil Delight ink (item 147094);
  • Poppy Parade (item 119793) and Real Red (item 102482) - shaded with Real Red ink (item 147084);
  • Melon Mambo (item 115320) - shaded with Real Red ink; and
  • Blueberry Bushel (item 146968), and Azure Afternoon (item 161719) for the centers.
For the oval flower centers I used Pecan Pie cardstock (item 161717) shaded with Pecan Pie ink (item 161665); and for the starry circle centers (and individual stars) Daffodil Delight cardstock - shaded with Daffodil Delight ink.

For the bucket - cut using the Country Flowers dies - I used Gray Granite cardstock (item 146983) shaded with Basic Gray ink (item 149165).

I stamped the sentiment on watercolour paper, and the oval was cut using the Mini Pocket Envelope dies (item 159167).  The die cut oval was shaded with Crumb Cake ink (item 147116) and Basic Gray ink, lightly spritzed with water (Stampin' Spritzers - item 126185), and blotted dry with paper towel - a little additional Basic Gray ink then sponged around the edges.  To embellish the oval I used two of the small dots from the recently (and regrettably!) retired Rustic Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots (item 159082).
