Mix & Match With Happy Hedgehogs Stamp Set!

Hello!  Today I am sharing a multi-piece project I worked on this week using the Stampin' Up! Happy Hedgehogs stamp set (item 157983) from the May 2023-April 2024 Annual Catalogue.  This stamp set is unfortunately one of the Stampin' Up! products that will be retiring as of the end of April, 2024, when both the May 2023-April 2024 Annual Catalogue and the January-April 2024 Mini Catalogue will be coming to an end.

During the Stampin' Up! Last Chance Promotion, which will run from April 9, 2024 through to April 30, 2024, the retiring products from both catalogues will be available only while supplies last, and quite a few of the products (including some of my favourites!)  will be substantially discounted!  The 2022-2024 In Colours (Sweet Sorbet, Parakeet Party, Tahitian Tide, Starry Sky, and Orchid Oasis) will also be retiring at the end of April, and it is expected that the products in these colours - cardstock, ink pads, ink refills, Stampin' Write Markers, and Stampin' Blend Combo Packs - will sell out quickly!  The Stampin' Blend Combo Packs in each of the five 2022-2024 In Colours will be discounted at 40% ($8.25); the five marker set Stampin' Write Marker Assortments in the 2022-2024 In Colours (item 161693) discounted by 50% ($12.50). The following are a few additional retiring products used in my projects this week that will also be discounted as of April 9, 2024:
  • Earthen Elegance 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161503) - 10% ($15.30);
  • Glorious Gingham 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 163170) - 20% ($11.60);
  • Masterfully Made 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161192) - 30% ($11.90);
  • Stargazing 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161175) - 40% ($10.20);
  • 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments-Regals (item 161642) - 30% ($11.90);
  • Artistic Mix Decorative Masks (item 159178) - 10% ($12.37);
  • Rustic Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots (item 159082) - 20% ($8.80);
  • Classic Matte Dots (item 158146) - 40% ($5.85);
  • Dainty Delight dies (item 160674) - 50% ($24.50); and
  • Paper Florist dies (item 161284) - 50% ($25.50).

Just a brief note about the basic tools and supplies I used to complete my projects this week:

  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) - for trimming paper and cardstock - can also be used for scoring;
  • stylus and scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) - for scoring fold lines.  For crisp folds I also burnish all folded scored lines using my Bone Folder (item 102300);
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) - for all die cutting;
  • Paper Snips Scissors (item 103579) - these small sharp scissors are very handy for trimming die cuts (i.e. snipping off a few leaves or shortening stems);
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the paper piercer, mini spatula, and tacky putty tips are a great help for picking up and placing small die cuts and embellishments; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
All stamped images were stamped on watercolour paper using
Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406), and watercoloured using the following Classic Stampin' inks applied with small paint brushes and a little water:
  • Sweet Sorbet (item 159216), Crumb Cake (item 147116), Old Olive (item 147090), Mossy Meadow (item 147111), Starry Sky (item 159212), Lost Lagoon (item 161678), and Pumpkin Pie (item 147086) for the mushroom and butterfly images;
  • Sweet Sorbet, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, and Daffodil Delight (item 147094) for the floral branch image - additional Crumb Cake ink was applied around the image circle using one of the Blending Brushes (item 153611), and splatters added by flicking the paint brush used to mix Crumb Cake ink and a little water; and
  • Lost Lagoon, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, Sweet Sorbet, Old Olive, and Basic Gray (item 149165) for the bird with flower images.
All of the note cards are 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" top-fold cards, and I used Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229), Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953), and Garden Green cardstock (item 102584) for the card bases.  Using an envelope punch board I made co-ordinating envelopes using the following Designer Series Papers:
  • Lost Lagoon and Lemon Lime Twist patterned papers from Bright & Beautiful 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 161449);
  • Pretty Peacock patterned paper from Glorious Gingham 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper;
  • black & white patterned paper from Zoo Crew 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161304);
  • Garden Green patterned paper from 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments-Regals; and
  • Sweet Sorbet patterned paper from the retired 2022-2024 In Colour 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments (item 159253) currently available on the Clearance Rack (I also used Starry Sky and Orchid Oasis patterns from this DSP for the mushroom card for which I made the envelope - 3 1/8" square panel, torn end strip, and 3 1/8" x 3/4" strip).
My idea for this project was to have a boxed set of similar themed small note cards and envelopes that I could use as a gift.  The box base measures 4" wide x 4" deep x 3" tall (2" + 1").  To complete the box and lid I used the following supplies:
  • for the box base an 8" square piece of Basic White Thick cardstock (item 159229) scored at 2" on all four sides;
  • four 3" tall x just under 4" wide pieces of Basic White Thick cardstock for the panels glued to the inside sides of the completed box base flush with the bottom - the addition of these panels was necessitated by my wanting to make the box taller as after assembling the box base I decided I did not want the lid to cover the entire base but their addition also has the benefit of making the box base stronger;
  • for the lid an 8 1/16" square piece of Basic White Thick cardstock scored at 2" on all four sides;
  • Basic Black cardstock (item 121045):  for the box base four 1 7/8" x 3 7/8" pieces; for the lid sides four 1 7/8" x 3 7/8" pieces; and for the lid top a 3 15/16" square piece;
  • black & white patterned paper from Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper:  for the lid sides four 1 13/16" x 3 13/16" pieces; and for the lid top a 3 7/8" square piece;
  • Pretty Peacock patterned paper from Earthen Elegance Designer Series Paper:  for the lid sides four 1 5/8" x 3 5/8" pieces; and for the lid top a 3 11/16" square piece;
  • Basic White Thick cardstock:  for the lid top a 3 1/4" square piece;
  • floral patterned paper from Masterfully Made 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper:  for the lid top a 3 3/16" square piece; and
  • for the bow tied around the lid, 5/8" black & white gingham ribbon from my Dollar Tree stash.
With the cards I just had fun playing and using some left-over pieces from other projects!
