Sale-A-Brating With Detailed Dogwood!

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few projects I worked on this week using one of the Sale-A-Bration products - the Detailed Dogwood stamp set (item 162953).  During the annual Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration Promotion - on now until February 29, 2024 - the Detailed Dogwood stamp set is one of the products that can be selected for free with an order of $120.00 or more CDN (before taxes and shipping), and with a variety of images would be a great choice for anyone interested in making collage projects!

For the month of February Stampin' Up! has made several more products available as Sale-A-Bration items in addition to those in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure.  Any one of the following products (with Sale-A-Bration item number) is now available for free with an order of $60.00 or more CDN (before taxes and shipping):
  • Beside Me stamp set (item 165709);
  • Botanical Layers stamp set (item 165708);
  • Delightfully Eclectic 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 165706);
  • Just Kiddin' 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 165712);

  • Stripes & Splatters 3D Embossing Folders (item 165707); and
  • Sweet Thoughts Memories & More Cards & Envelopes (item 165711).
Either one of the two following products (with Sale-A-Bration item number) is now available for free with an order of $120.00 or more CDN (before taxes and shipping):
  • 2023 New Core Colours Stampin' Write Markers - one marker in each of the new eleven Core Colours: Azure AfternoonBerry BurstBlueberry BushelBubble BathFresh FreesiaLemon Lime TwistLemon LollyLost LagoonMisty MoonlightPecan Pie, and Pretty Peacock (item 165704); and
  • Dragonflies Punch (item 165705).
Just a quick summary of the basic tools and supplies I used to complete my projects this week:

  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) - for trimming paper and cardstock - can also be used for scoring;
  • stylus and scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) - for scoring card fold lines.  For crisp card folds I also burnish all folded scored lines using my Bone Folder (item 102300);
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) - for all die cutting and embossing;
  • Paper Snips Scissors (item 103579) - these sharp scissors certainly came in handy when "fussy" cutting the little tag image (the Best Label Punch - item 1`58885 - from the May 2023-April 2024 Annual Catalogue does co-ordinate with the tag image);
  • Stampin' Brayer (item 162936) - although this silicone roller is intended for applying even ink coverage to embossing folders, stamps, and paper, it is also very effective for rolling over paper that has been glued to another surface - i.e. an MDF heart shape, or a thick cardboard backing panel.  Rolling the Brayer over the paper immediately after gluing the paper to another surface (whether wood, cardboard or another piece of paper) helps ensure even coverage of the liquid adhesive and helps prevent air bubbles and buckling of the paper - effective adhesion requires a proper adhesive and pressure, and rolling the Brayer over the paper provides good even pressure;
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the paper piercer, mini spatula, and tacky putty tips are a great help for picking up and placing small embellishments and die cuts; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
All images and sentiments (with the exception of the "just a note" sentiment on the first card) were stamped on watercolour paper using Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406).

On with the projects!

For this project I began with a glass-less wood frame with a 5" square opening picked up at a thrift shop, which I painted with black gesso and sanded with a medium-grit sandpaper; and a 4 1/2" x 3/8" thick MDF heart shape (that was glued inside another frame I picked up at Dollar Tree), the edges of which I painted with an "almost Real Red" acrylic paint.  To the front of the heart I glued a piece of Real Red patterned paper from One Horse Open Sleigh 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (item 162118), using a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the edges.  From medium weight cardboard (the back covers of watercolour paper pads come in very handy!) I cut a 5" square over which I glued woodgrain patterned paper also from the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP.  I glued the cardboard panel to the back of the frame, and glued the heart to the cardboard panel.
Paper Florist dies - 161284
Using the Paper Florist dies (item 161284) I cut two large and two small of the rounded four-petal flowers from Real Red cardstock (item 102482); one large and two small of the five-petal flowers from Flirty Flamingo cardstock (item 141416); three small four-petal flowers ("x" shape) from Flirty Flamingo cardstock; two four-stamen centers from Daffodil Delight cardstock (item 119683); one small perforated circle center from Pecan Pie cardstock (item 161717) - edges sponged with Pecan Pie ink (item 161665); two tiny scallop edge circle centers from Early Espresso cardstock (item 119686); one large perforated circle center from Basic Black cardstock (item 121045); one "fringe" strip from Smoky Slate cardstock (item 131202); and two broad leaves from Mossy Meadow cardstock (item 133676).  Using my fingers I scrunched up all flower petals before assembling the flowers.  I rolled the "fringe" strip around a toothpick - spot gluing the bottom edge.  After removing the rolled strip from the toothpick I "ruffled" the top edges with my fingers before gluing to the Basic Black cardstock circle center on the Real Red cardstock flower.

Using the Grove dies (item 157844) I cut three of the five-leaf stems from Granny Apple Green cardstock (item 146990); and using the Delicate Forest dies (item 162679) I cut three upright leafy stems, and one curved leafy stem from Old Olive cardstock (item 100702).  I added some shading to the die cut foliage by applying Mossy Meadow ink (item 147111) using one of the Blending Brushes (item 153611).
Grove dies - 157844

Delicate Forest dies - 162679
Using the full butterfly die from Meadow dies (item 155852) I cut two butterflies from watercolour paper that had been stamped using the grid and splatter images from the Notes of Nature stamp set (item 162630).  Using a paint brush and some water I applied Pool Party ink (item 147107) to both butterflies.
Meadow dies - 155852

The "Enjoy Today" sentiment is from the Beach Day stamp set (item 162797), and after cutting the strip using the Perennial Postage dies (item 162607), I applied Crumb Cake ink (item 147116) using one of the Blending Brushes, lightly spritzing with water (Stampin' Spritzers - item 126185) and blotting dry with paper towel.
Perennial Postage dies - 162607
After cutting out the dragonfly image flag using the Nested Essentials dies (item 161597) I applied Crumb Cake ink using one of the Blending Brushes.  With a paint brush I painted the dragonfly wings with Crumb Cake ink.  Using a paint brush I mixed water with Crumb Cake ink and by flicking the paint brush added a few splatters to the flag.  Additional Crumb Cake ink sponged around the edges of the flag.
Nested Essentials dies - 161597
To complete the project I added two small Rustic Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots (item 159082) to the dragonfly flag.
