Fish and Fowl!

(playing with the Beauty of the Deep and Hey Chuck Bundles)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few card projects I worked on this week using the Stampin' Up! Beauty of the Deep Bundle (item 161237) - which includes the Beauty of the Deep stamp set (item 161233) and co-ordinating Beauty of the Deep dies (item 161237), and the Hey Chuck Bundle (item 161553) - which includes the Hey Chuck stamp set (item 161549) and co-ordinating Hey Chuck dies (item 161552).  As with all stamp/die bundles the stamp sets and dies can of course be purchased individually but when purchased together using the Bundle item number there is the 10% Bundle Savings!

Just a quick note about the standard tools and supplies I used to complete my projects this week:
  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) - for cutting cardstock and paper (can also be used for scoring);
  • stylus and scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) - for scoring fold lines on cardstock card bases - once the cards are folded on the score line I sharpen the folds by burnishing with a Bone Folder (item 102300);
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) - for all die cutting and embossing;
  • Paper Snips Scissors (item 103579) - for additional trimming/snipping of die cuts;
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the paper piercer and tacky putty tips are great for picking up/placing small embellishments and die cuts, and the Brush Tip (item 149655) is great when using a detailed die - with the die cut in the die the brush is run over the back of the die helping to dislodge small pieces from the die cut; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
The stamped and coloured images were stamped on watercolour paper using Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406) and coloured using the following Stampin' Inks:
  • for the fish:  Pumpkin Pie (item 147086), Sweet Sorbet (159216), Daffodil Delight (item 147094), Basic Gray (item 149165), and Lost Lagoon (item 161678).  To add a little shimmer I painted the coloured fish with Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush (item 141897);
  • for the roosters:  Pecan Pie (item 161665), Sweet Sorbet, Lost Lagoon, Shaded Spruce (item 147088), Starry Sky (item 159212), Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green (item 147095), Basic Gray, and Berry Burst (item 147143);
  • for the anchor and skateboard:  Pecan Pie and Basic Gray.
On two of the "fish" cards I also added one (or three!) fish that were stamped and die cut using the Gone Fishing Bundle (item 161542) - the Bundle includes the Gone Fishing stamp set (item 161535) and co-ordinating Gone Fishing dies (item 161541).  These fish were also stamped on watercolour paper using Stazon Jet Black Ink,coloured with the Stampin' inks as set out above, and "painted" with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush.

A fun technique I used on a few of the cards was inking one side of the opened embossing folder before embossing the cardstock - I just dragged the ink pad across the folder - the raised portions of the design on the embossing folder get inked and when run through the Cut & Emboss Machine the ink is pressed into the recessed portions of the design on the cardstock (ie the brick grout lines).  It can be messy but that is half the fun too! An alternative technique is to sponge ink over an embossed piece of cardstock and this will apply the ink to the raised portions of the design on the cardstock - and of course the two techniques can be combined!

Envelopes were made using an envelope punch board and current and retired Designer Series Papers - ribbon/twine/paper ribbon from my stash was used to embellish the envelopes.

On with the projects!
Additional supplies used to complete this 4 1/8" x 5 1/4" top-fold card:
  • Shaded Spruce cardstock (item 146981) for the card base, and sentiment strips;
  • Very Vanilla Thick cardstock (item 144237) for the inside panel;
  • Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (item 132708) to stamp the sentiments - both from the Gorgeously Made stamp set (item 161193);
  • Crumb Cake cardstock (item 120953) for the 5" x 3 1/4" embossed panel - embossed using the Stripes Embossing Folder from Stripes & Splatters 3D Embossing Folders (item 157980) and Pecan Pie ink (item 161665);
  • watercolour paper for the two circle frames, underwater background scene, and die cut coral and foliage;
  • circle dies from Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) to cut the two circle frames and the underwater scene;
  • long narrow banner die from Stylish Shapes dies to cut the "Thank You" sentiment strip - both ends torn - the front sentiment strip was cut using the Paper Trimmer and the flag end cut using Paper Snips Scissors;
  • Around The Bend dies (item 160649) to cut the two leafy stems and the double leaf;
  • Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406) to stamp the foliage on underwater scene;
  • Shaded Spruce ink (item 147088) to colour the die cut coral and foliage - ink dabbed on with a sponge (Sponge Daubers - item 133773 - work great for this, especially on smaller die cuts).  I lightly spritzed the large coloured coral die cut with water (Stampin' Spritzers - item 126185), blotting dry with paper towel and then sponging a little Pecan Pie ink (item 161665);
  • Pecan Pie ink to colour the circle frames - also spritzed with water and blotted dry with paper towel;
  • Shaded Spruce ink and Starry Sky ink (item 159212) to colour the underwater scene;
  • approximately 2 3/4" diameter circle of acetate (Window Sheets - item 142314) - glued to the back of the double circle frame.  After gluing the two fish to the underwater scene that circle was then glued to the back of the double circle frame - I tried to be careful with the glue so that none would get on the acetate window!; and
  • four large Rustic Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots (item 159082) added to the port hole window.
The Pecan Pie/Very Vanilla patterned paper used for the envelope is from the Let's Go Fishing 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 161534).

  • watercolour paper for the underwater scene, circle frame, "punched circle" wave border, and die cut coral, grass, and leafy stem;
  • circle dies from Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) to cut the circle frame;
  • small banner die from Stylish Shapes dies to cut the sentiment banner;
  • Around The Bend dies (item 160649) to cut the leafy stem and the "punched circle" wave border;
  • grass die from the retired Honeybee Blooms dies (item 157951) to cut the tall grass;
  • Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406) to stamp the foliage on underwater scene, and the "Hello" sentiment from the Gorgeously Made stamp set (item 161193);;
  • Lost Lagoon ink (item 161678) to stamp the dots on the card front (full strength), and on inside panel (used 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation stamping), and colour the underwater foliage, die cut border, small coral, leafy branch and grass - the border die cut was spritzed with water (Stampin' Spritzers - item 126185), blotted dry with paper towel, more Lost Lagoon ink sponged around the edges, and "sparkle splattered" by rapping the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush (item 141897) against my Bone Folder;
  • Starry Sky ink (item 159212) - sponged over underwater scene (after foliage was coloured) then lightly spritzed with water and blotted dry with paper towel - also "sparkle splattered" with Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush;
