Winged Things!

(dragonflies, bees and a butterfly too!)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few "winged things" projects I worked on this week using the Stampin' Up! Dragonfly Garden stamp set (item 154411), co-ordinating Dragonflies punch (item 154240); Honeybee Home stamp set (item 157943), co-ordinating Honeybee Blooms dies (item 157951); Queen Bee dies (item 160484); and Brilliant Wings dies (item 155523).
The Stampin' Up! Last Chance Promotion, offering the retiring products from both the May 2022-April 2023 Annual Catalogue and the January-April 2023 Mini Catalogue, begins on April 4, 2023, and will run until May 1, 2023 - product availability will only be while supplies last.  Many of the retiring products will be offered at substantial discounts too!  The Dragonfly Garden and Honeybee Home stamp sets; and the Honeybee BloomsQueen Bee, and Brilliant Wings dies are all retiring items, and during the Last Chance Promotion the Honeybee Blooms, Queen Bee, and Brilliant Wings dies will all be discounted by 60%!.  Currently the Honeybee Blooms and Queen Bee dies are available as Bundles with their respective co-ordinating stamp sets, and, while the stamp sets (and Bundles) are also retiring, only the dies will be discounted during the Last Chance Promotion.  If you are interested in purchasing either (or both!) of these dies and co-ordinating stamp sets during the Last Chance Promotion, to ensure receipt of the discount on the dies, please be sure to use the separate item numbers for the dies and stamp sets rather than the Bundle item numbers when placing an online order!

With the launch of the May 2023-April 2024 Annual Catalogue on May 2, 2023, Stampin' Up! is also launching a colour refresh - each of the colour familes (Brights, Neutrals, Regals, and Subtles) will be updated, meaning that several current colours will be retired and new colours introduced (the introduction of new colours will also include the revival of a few past colours).  In addition to the updating of the "core" colours there will also be five new In Colours introduced for 2023-2025.  In case you are interested in stocking up on supplies in your favourite colours these are the retiring colours, including In Colours:
  • Soft Succulent
  • Polished Pink
  • Pale Papaya
  • Evening Evergreen
  • Bermuda Bay
  • Mango Melody
  • Pacific Point
  • Soft Suede
  • Mint Macaron
  • Merry Merlot
  • Sahara Sand
  • So Saffron
  • Blushing Bride
  • Rich Razzleberry
  • Pear Pizzazz
It is expected that supplies (ink pads and refills, cardstock etc.) in the retiring colours will sell out quickly so, although several of the retiring colour products will be discounted during the Last Chance Promotion, it is recommended that anyone interested in ordering supplies in the retiring colours do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!

Just a quick summary of the basic tools and supplies I used to complete this week's projects:
  • Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653) - for all die cutting and embossing;
  • Paper Trimmer (item 152392) - for cutting paper and cardstock (can also be used for scoring);
  • stylus and scoreboard (Simply Scored Scoring Tool - item 122334) - for scoring lines on cardstock;
  • Bone Folder (item 102300) - for burnishing all score lines to ensure crisp fold lines;
  • Take Your Pick Tool (item 144107) - the paper piercer and tacky putty tips are a tremendous help in picking up and placing small die cuts and embellishments;
  • for heat embossing the sentiment on the "follow your dreams" butterfly card, an Embossing Buddy (included in the Embossing Additions Tool Kit - item 159971) to rub over the cardstock in preparation for stamping and embossing; VersaMark Ink (item 102283) and gold embossing powder (Stampin' Emboss Powders - Metallics - item 155555) to stamp and emboss the sentiment; and, to activate (melt) the embossing powder, a heat gun (Heat Tool - item 129053).  I also used the heat gun to "shrink" the shrink plastic/film dragonflies; and
  • for the main adhesive, Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
Now on with the projects!
Dragonflies
Dragonfly Garden stamp set - 154411

Dragonflies punch - 154240

For the first two cards I stamped the dragonfly images on watercolour paper using Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406), colouring the images with Stampin' Up! inks, and "painting" the wings with my Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush (item 141897).  For the third and fourth cards I stamped the dragonfly images on small pieces of Vellum 8 1/2" x 11" Cardstock (item 101856) again using Stazon Jet Black Ink, colouring the images on the back side of the Vellum with alcohol markers (although I do not have the alcohol-based Stampin' Blend Markers I did use alcohol markers I do have that very closely match the Stampin' Up! colours).  Again I added a little sparkle to the wings by using the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush on the front side of the punched Vellum dragonflies.  To attach the Vellum dragonflies I used a rolled up glue dot (Mini Glue Dots - item 103683) behind the main body portion.  For the last two cards I played with shrink plastic (or shrink film) that I had on hand, purchased from a local craft store - white and clear. (I have also seen shrink plastic sheets in Dollarama).  After lightly sanding the side of the shrink plastic on which I was going to stamp using a very fine grit sandpaper I stamped the images using Stazon Jet Black Ink, punched out the stamped images, and then heated to shrink - this is a lot of fun and amazing how small the final images are!
