Watercolour Collage Card

(featuring Happiness Abounds Bundle)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a quick collage card I worked on this week featuring the Stampin' Up! Happiness Abounds Bundle (item 158824) - which includes the Happiness Abounds stamp set (item 159238) and the Blossoming Happiness dies (item 158823).  Of course the stamp set and the dies can be purchased separately but, when purchased together using the Bundle item number there is the 10% Bundle Savings!

Sometimes you want to create your own decorative paper panel - and this is easy and fun to do using watercolour paper (such as the Fluid 100 5" x 7" Watetercolour Paper - item 149612), stamps, and ink!  There are many Stampin' Up! stamp sets that include images that are ideal for collage backgrounds - such as floral/foliage images, splatters, stitching, and distressed/fractured text.  To create the collage background panel for my card I used the following stamp sets:
  • Happiness Abounds (item 159238) - flower and leaves;
  • Quiet Meadow (item 155082) - distressed/fractured text, and splatters;
  • Painted Poppies (item 151599) - larger splatters; and
  • Dragonfly Garden (item 154411) - dragonfly.
I began my 4 9/16" x 4 9/16" card by stamping the images on an approximately 4" x 4" watercolour panel (subsequently trimmed down to 3 15/16" x 3 15/16") using Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406).  I then coloured the stamped floral and leaf images using Rich Razzleberry ink (item 147091) - by adding a little less or more water you can get quite a variety of very pretty pinky shades from this ink! - Granny Apple Green ink (item 147095), and a little Daffodil Delight watercolour pencil (Watercolour Pencils - Assortment 1 - item 141709).  After the images were dry I added washes of Bermuda Bay ink (item 147096) and Rich Razzleberry ink to the panel around the coloured images.  By letting the Bermuda Bay ink and the Rich Razzleberry ink blend slightly in places I got some pretty soft purple shades.

I stamped the dragonfly image on vellum (Vellum 8 1/2" x 11" Cardstock - item 101856) using Stazon Jet Black Ink, and punched it out using the co-ordinating Dragonflies punch (item 154240).  I attached the dragonfly to the watercolour paper panel using a few drops of Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755) along the body of the dragonfly - I didn't add any glue on the wings.

The die cut rose and leaves added to the bottom left corner of the card were stamped on watercolour paper and also coloured using Rich Razzleberry ink, Granny Apple Green ink, and Daffodil Delight watercolour pencil.  The images were cut out using the Blossoming Happiness dies (item 158823).  Before gluing on the die cut images I glued the watercolour paper panel to a Smoky Slate cardstock (item 131202) matting panel - allowing for an approximately 1/16" border - the edges of which I distressed by running the blade of my craft knife along the edges - and then glued the matted watercolour panel to the Basic Gray cardstock (item 121044) card base.  To complete the front of the card, and to add just a little sparkle, I added five Opal Rounds (154289).

To the inside of the card I added a Smoky Slate cardstock panel, 1/4" smaller than the card base to allow for a 1/8" border on all sides.  The "Thinking of you with all my heart" sentiment, from the Peaceful Moments stamp set (item 151595), was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (item 132708).

I made a co-ordinating envelope from a piece of the Perfectly Penciled 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (item 159244) using an envelope punch board.

Thank you for visiting my blog!  I had a lot of fun working on this card!
