Playing With Hippest Hippos

(Sale-A-Bration Hippest Hippos Stamp Set and Hippos Dies)

Hello!  Today I am sharing a few more projects I worked on this week featuring the Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration Hippest Hippos stamp set (item 159921) and Hippo dies (item 159928).  During Sale-A-Bration (which runs until August 31, 2022), the stamp set and dies are items separately available for free each with a $60.00 CDN (before taxes and shipping) order - the Hippos are very hard to resist and the dies include lots of fun accessories to play with too!
For each of my projects I stamped the Hippos on watercolour paper (Fluid 100 5" x 7" Watercolour Paper - item 149612) using Stazon Jet Black Ink (item 101406) and watercoloured the images using Basic Gray ink (item 149165) for the bodies, and Calypso Coral ink (item 147101) for the snouts, bellies, and hoof nails.  All die cuts were made using the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (item 149653).

For this 4" x 4" card I used the following additional supplies:
  • Balmy Blue cardstock (item 146982) for the card base, and the wave strip;
  • Poppy Parade cardstock (item 119793) for the front matting panel (the edges of which I distressed by scraping the blade of my craft knife along the edges), the boats, and the hearts;
  • Night of Navy cardstock (item 100867) for the front embossed panel - embossed using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder (item 156505), the inside panel, and the splashes;
  • Granny Apple Green cardstock (item 146990) for the snorkel and mask - sponged with Granny Apple Green ink (item 147095);
  • Pool Party cardstock (item 122924) for the inside of the snorkel mask - I stamped the Hippo face on this piece using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (item 132708) and sponged the edges with Granny Apple Green ink;
  • Basic White cardstock (item 159276) for the life preserver;
  • watercolour paper for the circle base on the front panel and for the sentiment circle - the circles were cut using the Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183);
Stylish Shapes dies - item 159183
  • Watercolour Pencils - Assortment 2 (item 149014) - Balmy Blue used to create the splatters on the large circle;
  • Real Red ink (item 147084) to colour the portions of the life preserver, and to sponge the edges of the boats;
  • Silver Foil (Silver Foil 12" x 12" Specialty Pack - item 156457) for the propellers;
  • Linen Thread (item 104199) for the life preserver's rope;
  • the recently retired Catch You Later stamp set (item 158037 - from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalogue) for the "I'll catch you later dear friend" sentiment, which was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink; and
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
Before cutting the large circle I glued the wave strip and the torn sand strip to a piece of splattered watercolour paper.  Using an envelope punch board I made a co-ordinating envelope from Night of Navy cardstock and used some Dollar Tree striped ribbon for the bow.

For this 6 3/4" tall x 4" wide envelope to hold a Eurospa Facial Mask I used the following additional supplies:
  • an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock (item 131201) scored as follows:  on the 11" side at 3 1/2" and 7 1/2"; and on the 8 1/2" side at 3/4" (bottom flap) on one end and at 1" on the other end (top flap).  I have attached a photo showing the cutting template:
  • Pear Pizzazz patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Subtles (item 159255) - patterned paper strips for the front of the envelope;
  • Pear Pizzazz cardstock and Soft Seafoam cardstock (item 146988) for the foliage - cut using the Grove dies (item 157844), the Summer Shadows dies (item 156618), and the Chic dies (item 158815);
  • Soft Seafoam cardstock for the sentiment circle, cut using the Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183);
  • Memento Tuxedo Black Ink (item 132708) to stamp the sentiment;
  • Petal Pink cardstock (item 146985) for the flowers;
  • Silver Foil (Silver Foil 12" x 12" Specialty Pack - item 156457) for the washtub;
  • white doily - the retired Heart & Home Doilies (item 157956 - from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalogue);
  • Linen Thread (item 104199) - looped behind the doily;
  • Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach the washtub;
  • Opal Rounds (item 154289) for the "soap bubbles";
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755);
  • a corner rounder punch to round the corners of the top and bottom flaps; and
  • Basic Grey small self-adhesive magnetic discs, purchased at my local scrapbooking store, for the envelope closure.

Fabulous Frames dies - item 159163

For this 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" card I used the following additional supplies:
  • Starry Sky cardstock (item 159263) for the card base, and scraps and flower used on the inside panel;
  • watercolour paper to cut the oval frame - cut using the Fabulous Frames dies (item 159163). I watercoloured the oval frame using Starry Sky ink (item 159212) and then over stamped using the distressed text stamp from the Quiet Meadow stamp set (item 155082), also using Starry Sky ink;
  • Starry Sky ink to stamp the sentiment on watercolour paper - the circle was cut using the Stylish Shapes dies (item 159183) - and to colour the Hippo's tutu and ballet slippers;
  • Soft Seafoam cardstock (item 146988) and Pear Pizzazz cardstock (item 131201) for the foliage - cut using the Grove dies (item 157844) and the Summer Shadows dies (item 156618);
  • Poppy Parade cardstock (item 119793) for the hearts;
  • Pear Pizzazz patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Subtles (item 159255) for the front matting panel, the panel behind the oval frame, and the square panel behind the sentiment circle on the inside panel (the square was cut using the Stylish Shapes dies);
  • Starry Sky patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - 2022-2024 In Colour (item 159253) - patterned paper strip used on the front panel and scraps used on the inside panel;

  • Linen Thread (item 104199) to tie the bow through the blue button from my stash; and
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).

For this 2 1/2" x 4" card I used the following additional supplies:
  • Evening Evergreen cardstock (item 155574) for the card base;
  • Petal Pink cardstock (item 146985) for the matting panel;
  • Flirty Flamingo cardstock (item 141416) for the hearts;
  • Basic White cardstock (item 159276) for the sentiment label;
  • Evening Evergreen patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - 2021-2023 In Colour (item 159254) for the front panel and strip on the inside panel;
  • Evening Evergreen ink (item 155576) to stamp the sentiment, to colour the Hippo's tutu and ballet slippers, and to colour the leaf on the Hippo's heart flower;
  • Fabulous Frames dies (item 159163) to cut the sentiment label;
  • Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430) to attach the Hippos; and
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).
And finally . . .
Why not "pretty up" a water bottle?  I selected three colours of cardstock to co-ordinate with my paper straws:  Poppy Parade cardstock (item 119793) for the large band, hearts, and small circle to which the rosette is glued; Pool Party cardstock (item 122924) for the smaller band, and the matting scalloped circle for the Hippo; and Bermuda Bay cardstock (item 131197) for the matting scalloped circle for the patterned paper rosette, and the stem/leaves of the heart flower the Hippo is holding.  Using Real Red ink (item 147084) and a wet paintbrush I splattered the Poppy Parade cardstock band.  I stamped the Pool Party cardstock band and scalloped circle using the splatter stamp from the Painted Poppies stamp set (item 151599) and Bermuda Bay ink (item 147096) - stamping off twice before stamping on the cardstock.  The scalloped circles and the small circle to which the rosette is glued were cut using the Layering Circles dies (item 151770).  For the flower stem/leaves I used the small leaf branch die from the Grove dies (item 157844),  For the rosette I used two 6" x 1 3/8" strips of Poppy Parade patterned paper from the 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Assortments - Brights (item 159258), with each strip scored along the 6" length at every 1/4".  I added a tiny Linen Thread (item 104199) bow to the flower stem.  I secured the ends of the bands using double-sided tape (Tear & Tape Adhesive - item 154031); the Hippo was attached using Stampin' Dimensionals (item 104430); and for all other attachments I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue (item 110755).  The ribbon I used for the bottle's bow was a lucky find at Dollarama - I try to remember to always take my cardstock sampler (https://archiesatelier.blogspot.com/2022/05/daffodil-daydream-bundle-i-wandered.html) with me when I go out shopping!
